NIE is a cooperative effort of newspapers working with local schools to encourage the use of the newspaper as a tool for instruction and to promote literacy. Under the program, The N&O sponsors newspapers for teachers to use in their classrooms. NIE teachers also receive curriculum ideas, teaching materials and more.
