NIE is a cooperative effort of newspapers working with local schools to encourage the use of the newspaper as an educational tool to promote literacy and civic responsibility. Through this program, The News & Observer provides newspapers to educators and students. NIE teachers also receive curriculum ideas, teaching materials and more.
